About Cecilia

Cecilia is calm nearly all day. She will settle near you and stay there, which makes her a good match for someone who works from home. Then you pick up a leash and she becomes a completely different animal, delighted out of all proportion.

She loves people, and not selectively: everyone she meets gets the same silly greeting. She thrives off of loving attention.

She came from a place where she was kept on concrete, and her skin is still recovering from it. It has been slowly improving with minimal care, and it doesn't seem to bother her much anymore.

She's had her spay and her dental surgery, and most of her teeth came out. She has recovered completely. She eats normal food, needs no special diet, and her tongue sticks out sometimes, which is among the endless things we find endearing about her.

Why seven is the good part

Most people scroll past a seven-year-old dog looking for a puppy thinking an older dog is too much work. Cecilia's age is the reason she is the easier choice.

She's done growing, and she has already worked out what is hers to chew. Her toys take a beating; our belongings do not. She is house trained, and she uses pee pads indoors, which makes her a genuinely good apartment dog. There is no guessing what she will turn into, because she already is the ball of joy she is going to be.

With a puppy you are buying a project. With Cecilia you are getting the finished dog: spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, her dental behind her, and a temperament you can watch for yourself before you decide. She is a lovely one.

Is she good with kids?

We think so. Cecilia adores every adult she meets, and she walks past children without a second glance. She hasn't lived with kids, so we can't say for certain, but we've seen nothing that worries us.

Is she good with other dogs?

She is good with our resident American Staffordshire Terrier, and we are still working on getting her comfortable with dogs she does not know. An adopter should expect introductions to take time and go slowly.

Is she good with cats?

We don't know. She has never been around one, so we cannot tell you either way.

What happened to her teeth?

She had her dental surgery here with us, and most of them came out. She kept her bottom canines and her molars, and she has recovered completely. She eats normal food without any trouble and needs no special diet. Her tongue sticks out sometimes as a result.

Is Cecilia a pit bull?

"Pit bull" is not a breed, although that's what it says on her paperwork. The term is a catch-all for several breeds, and we think Cecilia is an American Staffordshire Terrier mix, one of the breeds people usually mean by it. We haven't done a DNA test to know for certain, but we think she is mostly AmStaff.
